Hi there! My name is Cathleen Soares and I am your local trusted real estate expert, advisor and problem solver. I was born and raised in San Jose, California. I also lived in Morgan Hill, California for 8 years before moving back to San Jose in 2017 where I currently live and work. I currently serve all of San Jose, Santa Clara, Fremont, Newark, Union City, Morgan Hill, Gilroy and Hollister. I am of Portuguese and Brazilian descent and I can write and speak Portuguese fluently. I also speak a good amount of Spanish. I attended a small, private Catholic school from Pre-K all the way through eighth grade. I then went on to attend an all girls, Catholic high school, called Notre Dame High School, which I graduated in 2008. After graduating high school, I attended San Jose State University from 2008-2102 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Occupational Therapy with a minor in Business.
After graduating college, I worked in a Sports Rehabilitation Center as a Physical Therapy Aide for about three years. I assisted individuals in recovering from sports related injuries, which I really enjoyed because I met a lot of great people and I loved being a part of their rehabilitation process, hearing their stories and helping them recover and get back to playing sports. Unfortunately, I came to the realization that physical therapy was not something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My boss at the time saw how I was with patients and saw that I had a way to connect with them, so she suggested that I go for my Masters degree in Psychology. She recommended Santa Clara University as that is also where she obtained her Masters in Psychology. I thought it was a good idea as I was always fascinated by Psychology and how the human brain works. Therefore, I applied and got accepted into Santa Clara University’s Masters of Psychology program. After leaving my job at the Sports Rehabilitation clinic, I got a job closer to home in the Hospitality industry working front desk at a hotel. This was also while I was attending Santa Clara University. Fast forward two years into attending Santa Clara University, I also realized that Psychology was not my true passion. I enjoyed working with people, but not necessarily in that way. After ending my path of obtaining my Masters degree, I decided I was finally going to pursue my dream of getting my real estate license.
So, why real estate? Well, my parents immigrated from Brazil to the United States in the early 1980’s with very little in their pockets. They worked as janitors and cleaners to save up enough to start a life, purchase a home and achieve the “American Dream”. After years of saving, they purchased their first home right before I was born in 1989. From a young age, I witnessed my parents work extremely hard, save money and ultimately, start to invest in real estate. They then went on to purchase their first 4-plex investment property in 1996. They then leveraged that to purchase their second 4-plex property, then they purchased their last investment property, which was a 17-unit multi-family commercial property in 2007. The beauty in all of this was that in 2008, they were finally able to purchase their dream home in Morgan Hill, while still keeping the first home they purchased in 1989 and using it as a rental property. I vividly remember being young and witnessing all of this and falling in love with the process. I enjoyed going to the real estate appointments with my parents, looking at properties with them and giving my input. But above all, watching them build generational wealth through real estate. I did not realize it at the time, but now I do. I remember thinking to myself, “I want to do this one day and help people achieve their real estate goals and dreams”. The only reason I held back on getting my license was because my parents wanted me to go to college and get a degree, so I did that to fulfill their wishes. However, my mind always went back to real estate.
In 2018, I got my license and joined a brokerage right away. I started out part-time as I was working full-time in Property Management as a leasing consultant. Unfortunately, it was difficult to be in real estate as well as work a demanding full-time job, so I got out of real estate for a couple of years. I worked in Property Management for 4 years, from 2017-2021. I started out as a leasing consultant and was then promoted to assistant property manager in April of 2020. I loved working in property management. It prepared me for real estate in a way. I got to help families and young couples find the perfect apartment home. I listened to their needs and wants, their desires in a new home, their budget and I solved their problems with their current living situation.
Then, in late 2019, I came across a new and interesting restaurant franchise opportunity. It was very random and I have never worked in a restaurant before and I did not grow up in the restaurant industry. However, I thought that it could be something that I could eventually leave my full-time job and still do real estate in addition to the restaurant. I also thought that since it was a franchise, that I would get support from them and the concept of the restaurant seemed easy and straightforward. I was extremely wrong! It was the hardest and most stressful thing I have ever done. Especially because I had no experience and did not get the support from the franchise that I thought I would. There was no way that I could do real estate along with the restaurant. Shortly after I opened, I closed down the restaurant. It was an extremely hard decision for me, but I could not go on anymore. I sold everything and was able to remove myself from the franchise. I felt like a complete failure and became very depressed that I put all this time, energy and money into the restaurant only for me to fail. But, I could not give up! I had to keep going!
I decided that now that I have the opportunity, I am going to go back into real estate full-time. It was the best decision I have ever made. Even though I went through some obstacles and setbacks to get here, I made it. I went into real estate full-time in September of 2021 and have had great success. I was with Intero Real Estate before joining Your Home Sold Guaranteed. I joined Your Home Sold Guaranteed for their top notch training, guidance, reputation in the industry and their amazing non-profit involvement. For every home I help sell or buy, a portion of my own income gets donated to Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and San Jose, American Red Cross, Children’s Research Hospital and other non-profit organizations.
I have found my true calling with real estate and with Your Home Sold Guaranteed Realty and I will continue helping families and individuals as I have been for the last year. I will continue to be their advisor, problem solver, and help people achieve their goals and dreams through real estate, while at the same time, building generational wealth.
In my free time, I love to go hiking, workout, go to the beach, bake, go on motorcycle rides with my spouse, try different wineries and restaurants, play soccer, travel and spend quality time with friends and family.
